Escape Ramp For Swimming Pool Critters!
The Frog Log is a swimming pool escape ramp for frogs, toads, lizards, mice, chipmunks, squirrels, ducklings, turtles, bugs or insects, and other small animals up to one pound. The Frog Log saves native wildlife, keeps pool water clean, and reduces time spent on pool maintenance. The Frog Log can also be used in other water features including hot tubs or spas, backyard ponds, and fountains.
Protects Native Wildlife
Each year millions of small animals die in swimming pools. Help save native animals and reduce those unpleasant surprises in your skimmer basket.
Keeps Pool Water Clean
Minimize unhealthy bacteria from animals and their wastes. The Frog Log allows small animals to escape your pool quickly and keeps the water clean and safe.
Chlorine or other sanitizers are used up when they react with bacteria from animals and their waste. The Frog Log can reduce the amount of chlorine used and lessen the risk of a chlorine lock.
The Frog Log will significantly reduce the frequency of animals in your pool, and reduce the need to constantly check the skimmer.
How it Works
Once a frog, mouse, or other animal falls into a pool, they instinctively swim toward the pool wall trying to escape. The animal will circle around the edge of the pool looking for a way out. The animal will bump into the Frog Log, climb up the platform, climb the mesh ramp, and exit the pool.
Turning the pump and filter to cycle off at night will improve the effectiveness of the Frog Log. If the pump runs all night, there is a greater chance of animals getting pulled into the skimmer before finding the Frog Log. If regulations allow for only a brief shutdown period for the pump, set it to cycle off at dusk, as this is when animals become active. Using the recommended number of units based on pool size will provide the best coverage.
With care, the Frog Log can be used with swimming pools that have automatic pool covers. Small animals can crawl under a pool cover and get into the water. The Frog Log can also be placed on top of or underneath a solar cover.
Simply inflate the bladder to a firm consistency and add 1.5-2 cups of sand or pea gravel to the plastic bag. Insert the plastic bag into the fabric pouch. Place the floating platform in the water and place the sandbag on the pool deck. An optimal location is just upstream from the flow of water moving toward the skimmer opening. For multiple units, space Frog Logs evenly around the pool. Several customers have suggested using a dive belt weight instead of sand.
Cleaning and Repair
Clean the Frog Log with warm soap and water. Dry before storing. The inflatable bladder can be removed and patched with a PVC patch kit. The re-sealable bag used for the sand weight can be replaced with a freezer bag. Several customers have suggested using a dive belt weight instead of sand.
Suggested number of Frog Log's to Use By Pool Size:
||*Number of Frog Log Units|
|15' x 30'
|15' x 30' to 25' x 50'
|25' x 50' to 50 x 80'
* Use the higher number if:
1. The pump and filter are run at night.
2. Chlorine levels are kept high.
3. The number of animals found in your pool is substantial.
4. Small mammals (mice, chipmunks, etc.) are the main concern.
5. There are multiple skimmer intakes in your pool.
