Vita-Bugs - The choice of hobbyists and breeders
Existing feeder insect choices do not provide complete nutrition for captive
insect eaters, as a result, dusting or gut-loading is necessary. Even when used
properly, many existing commercial gut-loading products and dusts do not provide
After years of research and development the first vitamin and nutrient
complete diet* for nourishing feeder insects has been created; Vita-Bugs. The
patent pending feed enhances the content of critical nutrients in feeder insects
therefore reducing the need to dust or gut-load.
Vita-Bug insects raised on our patent pending feed have been proven to
maintain the increased vitamin and nutrient levels throughout their growing
process, unlike most gut-loading or dusting techniques that expel their
improvements in short time. Our Vita-Bug Crickets have enhanced Vitamin E,
Beta-Carotene, Omega-6 and Omega-3 Fatty Acids!
*proper calcium supplementation is still recommended
As you become familiar with Vita Bugs, please note that
Vita Bugs, as a staple diet, add essential nutrients to the diet of
insectivores. However, calcium must still be supplemented. To that end, we offer CalciWorms which can be fed once or twice per week to
boost calcium intake and thus negate the necessity of additional dusting or gut
loading. CalciWorms available at checkout.

The Ins and Outs of Keeping Crickets
So, once you have a box full of crickets at your doorstep, what do you do with them? In every order of live pet food we send, Bluebird Landing includes detailed care instructions to help you make the most of your feeders. With a little care, you can make your feeders last longer and be a healthier meal for your animals. The basics, however, are these: your crickets need a clean, dry place to live, away from chemicals and extreme heat/cold; they need moisture, and they need food. Read our Cricket Care Instructions
Choosing Cricket Sizes
The best rule of thumb? Choose a cricket
that's smaller in width than the animal's mouth. It's usually better to guess
small on cricket size, rather than large - your animals will still eat a cricket
that's smaller than its ideal size, but if the cricket is more than a mouthful,
it's too big. Our customer service representatives can help you choose the right
size or combination of sizes for the animals you keep. With ten sizes to choose
from, we'll certainly have the size of cricket you need!
