Black-Capped Chickadees are common across North America. Both male and female have similar markings with their combination of white, black, gray and buff.
The chickadee is a take-out bird at your feeders, hurriedly grabbing a seed and quickly moving on to probably stash it for later consumption. They have a remarkable memory as to where they have hidden their food supplies. Chickadees love a variety of food, including black oil sunflower seeds, hulled sunflower, peanuts, tree nuts, suet, safflower and nutrasaff. They will come to any feeder and probably be the first visitor when you add a feeder to your yard. Thank you to The Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Ithaca, New York.
