Towhees

Eastern TowheeThe Towhee is described as a large, striking sparrow. Found primarily in the western United States, the male Spotted Towhee has red eyes, a gleaming black head and wings with white spots and rufous sides. The female coloring is brown or grey. They nest either on the ground or low in bushes.

Towhees prefer to feed on the ground, but will visit feeders also. Their preferred seed is black oil and hulled sunflower, but also will eat millet, shelled peanuts, safflower or nutrasaff, corn products and tree nuts.
